Nigeria A produced another dominant performance in the Nigeria T20 Quadrangular Series, defeating Ghana by eight wickets in Match 6 at the Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval in Lagos. The victory on Wednesday, September 23, maintained Nigeria A's perfect record in the competition.
Ghana won the toss and elected to bat first, but Nigeria A's bowlers quickly put the YellowGreens under pressure. Ghana struggled to build partnerships and were eventually bowled out for 65 runs in 17.3 overs.
Mohameed Taiwo was named Player of the Match after an excellent bowling spell. The Nigeria A captain finished with two wickets for just five runs from three overs, while Mustapha Yussuf claimed three wickets for 22 runs in 3.3 overs. Elochukwu Ndubudem, Sylvester Okpe and Gafar Kareem also took a wicket each.
Ghana's batting effort lacked the consistency needed to post a competitive total. Obed Harvey, Richmond Baaleri and Philip Yevugah each scored 11 runs, but none of the Ghana batters could establish a substantial partnership.
Nigeria A needed only 11.5 overs to complete the chase. Olayinka Olaleye led the response with an unbeaten 31 from 19 balls, including three sixes, while Elijah Jimmy contributed 14 from 13 balls. Sesan Adedeji remained unbeaten on 11 as Nigeria A reached 66 for two.
The result marked Nigeria A's third consecutive victory in the tournament. They had previously defeated Sierra Leone by 33 runs and Nigeria by 19 runs, giving them a perfect six points from three matches.
Nigeria A therefore sit at the top of the standings with three wins from three matches and a net run rate of 1.718. Nigeria and Sierra Leone have three points each, while Ghana remain without a point after three defeats.
The tournament continues at the TBS Cricket Oval on Friday. Ghana will face Sierra Leone, while Nigeria will meet Nigeria A in another important contest as the teams continue their push for a place at the top of the standings.
