NFF inaugurates interim Beach Soccer, Futsal board to boost domestic leagues

Posted : 13 July 2026

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has inaugurated an Interim Beach Soccer and Futsal Board as part of efforts to strengthen the development of the two football variants through improved administration and structured domestic competitions.

The decision was one of the key resolutions reached at the meeting of the NFF Executive Committee held at the Best Western Plus Hotel in Asaba, Delta State.

According to the communiqué issued after the meeting, the newly constituted board has been mandated to organise and oversee Beach Soccer and Futsal leagues across the country, with the objective of creating a sustainable development pathway for players, coaches, and officials.

Mahmud Hadejia will serve as Chairman of the board, while the members include Dele Gbajumo, Hon. Nkopuye Ukpe, Abdul-Nasir Adamu Senchi, Prof. Victor Madubuko, Alhaji Mohammed Bukar Alau, and former Super Falcons captain Onome Ebi.

Saraki Rasheed Oladimeji was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer, while the NFF disclosed that a Chief Operating Officer would be named by the General Secretary.

"The Executive Committee constituted an interim Board that is now saddled with the organisation of Beach Soccer and Futsal leagues in the country," the communiqué stated.

Reacting to his appointment, Hadejia expressed appreciation to the NFF for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work closely with board members and stakeholders to reposition Beach Soccer and Futsal in Nigeria.

"I am deeply honoured by the confidence reposed in me by the Nigeria Football Federation to serve as Chairman of the Interim Beach Soccer and Futsal Board. This appointment is a call to service, and I am fully committed to working with every member of the board and relevant stakeholders to reposition Beach Soccer and Futsal for sustainable growth and greater competitiveness," he said.

Hadejia identified the establishment of a vibrant league structure as the board's immediate priority, noting that it would provide opportunities for players, coaches, and match officials while creating a clear pathway for talent development.

"Our immediate priority is to establish a strong and functional league structure that will provide opportunities for players, coaches, and officials while creating a clear pathway for talent development. We will work diligently to ensure these two exciting formats of the game receive the attention and support they deserve," he added.

He also expressed optimism that, with the support of the NFF, the National Sports Commission, sponsors, and other football stakeholders, Nigeria could build a thriving Beach Soccer and Futsal ecosystem capable of competing successfully on the continental and global stage.

The establishment of the interim board reflects the federation's renewed commitment to revitalising Beach Soccer and Futsal through structured leagues, effective governance, and sustainable grassroots development. The initiative is expected to provide a stronger foundation for identifying and nurturing talent while enhancing Nigeria's competitiveness in both disciplines at regional and international competitions.
