The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, has reaffirmed the importance of the National Institute for Sports (NIS) in achieving the Commission's vision to reset, reform, and relaunch Nigerian sports.
Dikko made the remarks while receiving the newly appointed Director-General (DG) of NIS, Comrade Philip Shuaibu, at the NSC Headquarters. Shuaibu visited the Commission to formally notify the Chairman of his resumption and to engage in strategic discussions on delivering President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR’s mandate for the sports sector.
Commending the President’s decision, Dikko said, "I must sincerely thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for once again taking the road less traveled with this appointment. The President is embarking on a reform agenda—resetting many sectors including sports—so there is a need to make decisions that drive this vision. This appointment is one of those key decisions that will truly support the ongoing reforms."
Dikko emphasized the crucial role the NIS will play in this new direction, noting, “The NIS is key to our vision at the Commission because it provides the manpower and research capacity needed to accelerate our goals. We’re doing things differently—because only mad men keep doing the same thing expecting different results.”
He added, “The President has chosen an administrator who has excelled in all previous assignments, and now strategically placed him to transform the NIS. The President has selected three trusted allies to occupy three critical positions, marking a bold step toward reshaping Nigerian sports.”
Expressing confidence in Shuaibu’s capacity, Dikko said, “Welcome to the family. You've been part of this journey before, but now you’re playing a pivotal role in driving our vision. I'm confident that the President will be pleased, as you've consistently delivered beyond expectations. We’ve aligned our thoughts, and we’ll work collectively to fulfill the mandate."
Earlier, Comrade Shuaibu assured the NSC Chairman of his full commitment to actualizing the Presidential directive. “I came to inform the Chairman of my resumption. Our discussions reaffirmed that sports in Nigeria is on the right path. We will ensure that the President’s renewed hope vision is reflected clearly in the sporting sector,” he said.
