Nelly Korda Eyes Seventh Win of Season at US Women's Open

Posted : 29 May 2024

World No. 1 Nelly Korda is embracing the expectations as she aims for her seventh victory of the season and her third career major at this week's US Women's Open. The 25-year-old enters the tournament at Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania as the favorite, fresh off her sixth win of 2024 at the Mizuho Americas Open earlier this month.

Korda already secured a major victory this year by winning The Chevron Championship in April. Many anticipate she could add another title at Lancaster, where she aims for her seventh win in her last eight starts. Her recent success has drawn comparisons to golfing legends like Tiger Woods, yet Korda remains grounded despite the accolades.

"I understand that with my position, there will be expectations," Korda stated on Tuesday. "However, I want to remain true to myself because, at the end of the day, I need to be proud of who I am when I go to sleep."

While Korda is fiercely competitive, she maintains a balanced perspective on her season's blistering start, acknowledging that not every week will result in a victory. "I go into every week wanting to win, but I understand that sometimes it's not realistic," she remarked. "My priority is to give 100 percent to my golf, my family, my workouts, and life outside of golf."

Focused on the challenges of the demanding 6,546-yard, par-70 layout at Lancaster, Korda is prepared for the rigorous test it presents. "This golf course is a beast," she said. "It tests every aspect of your game, with tight fairways and small, undulated greens. You need to be precise from tee to green."

Korda's statistics back up her readiness to tackle Lancaster, as she leads the LPGA Tour in scoring average and greens in regulation. Reflecting on her recent win at the Mizuho Americas Open, Korda noted that she triumphed despite not feeling her best. "That's what makes this game so intriguing," she explained. "You can be on top of the world one day and questioning everything the next, yet still find a way to win."
