Nelly Korda Chases Historic Third Major Title at Women’s British Open

World No. 1 Nelly Korda is focused on staying composed as she pursues a rare third major championship of the 2026 season at the Women’s British Open, which begins on Thursday at Royal Lytham & St Annes in northwest England.

Korda has already enjoyed a remarkable year, capturing the Chevron Championship in April before adding the US Open title last month to claim her fourth career major. However, her momentum was briefly interrupted at the Evian Championship in France, where she missed the cut for the first time in two years. South Korea’s Ryu Hae-ran won both the PGA Championship and the Evian Championship, ensuring that two players have claimed multiple majors in the same season for the first time in golf history.

Ahead of the season’s final major, Korda said her primary objective is to remain focused on factors she can influence, particularly on links courses where unpredictable bounces and windy conditions often create unexpected challenges.

The American admitted that links golf brings mixed emotions because even well-executed shots can produce poor outcomes due to the nature of the terrain. She explained that learning to accept those situations and quickly reset mentally has become an important part of her preparation.

Celebrating her 28th birthday earlier this week, Korda is hoping to improve on her best result at the Women’s British Open, a tie for second place behind Lydia Ko at St Andrews in 2024. She acknowledged that the crowded schedule can sometimes lead to frustration but believes experience has taught her the importance of regaining focus after difficult moments.

Despite its challenges, Korda said she enjoys the creativity required in links golf, where traditional strategies often give way to unconventional shot selection. She noted that players are sometimes forced to deliberately avoid the fairway to create a better approach to the green, a tactic rarely seen on standard parkland courses.

Korda will play the opening two rounds in one of the tournament’s featured groups alongside fellow major winner Ryu Hae-ran and New Zealand star Lydia Ko as she looks to become only the seventh golfer, male or female, to win three major championships in a single season.
