NCS Club holds AGM, elects new captain

Posted : 24 December 2024

To foster plans for the 2025/2026 friendly matches and international tours next season, Ositadinma Onwunzulike has been elected the new captain of the London-Nigerian Cricket Club (LNCC) at the Annual General Meeting held in London.

Onwunzulike, a Nigerian international, described his new assignment as a huge responsibility, saying he would definitely reciprocate the confidence that the voters have invested in him to become the new captain.

Onwunzulike, who plays professionally for Hornchurch Cricket Club in the Essex Premier Cricket League, said that the captaincy was a new dawn for him as both a player and an administrator, adding that his wealth of experience would come into play.

“This is a huge challenge, and with the confidence my teammates have invested in me, I will do my best to reciprocate their trust and the respect they have for me by making me the captain of LNCC for the upcoming season.

“This is a new beginning because I will bring my wealth of experience playing in a semi-professional side.

"Playing for both the first and second teams in the Essex Premier League is something that one can never downplay, and it’s an experience I will bring to LNCC as well," he said.

Onwunzulike, who was endorsed by Prophecy Cricket Bats and Equipment Kits this season, stressed that the new board of LNCC is taking charge and playing to their full potential, aiming not to play under pressure in the coming season.

He pointed out that playing under pressure would not bring out the best in the players.

In his words: “In the game of cricket now, one is expected to play to their potential and to the best of their ability. As captain, I would support my teammates to play to the best of their ability and not under pressure, because playing under pressure will not allow one to bring out their best.

“I have learned from playing in such situations that no matter how you play or what you do, no one comes to the field to lose or to bat without scoring runs. No matter how your teammate plays, keep encouraging them; they will get better and build confidence,” Onwunzulike stressed.

Other board members elected include Roland Ilube (vice captain), Matthew Condotti (Secretary), Demola Tade (Tour and Special Projects), Benjamin Anyia (Treasurer), Mike Gabbay, Ike Odina (Welfare Secretary), and Femi Odewumi (Social Secretary).

The tenure of the board will end in two years.
