NBSL 2026: Kebbi Fishers eye strong start on home sand

Posted : 19 March 2026

Kebbi Fishers BSC will begin their quest for another Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL) title with renewed determination as they prepare to host the opening round of the 2026 season in Kebbi State.

The former champions head into the campaign as one of the teams to beat, having built a reputation for dominance in recent years.

However, memories of last season’s final heartbreak still linger after their penalty shootout loss to Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors.

Speaking ahead of the kickoff, experienced player Hassan Muhammad expressed confidence in the team’s preparations, stressing that the squad is mentally and physically ready for the challenge ahead.

Kebbi Fishers have spent the last two weeks in intensive camp, fine-tuning strategies and building cohesion as they aim to hit the ground running in front of their home fans.

Despite their pedigree, having lifted the NBSL title in 2021, 2023, and 2024, Muhammad acknowledged that past success offers no guarantees in beach soccer, a format widely known for its unpredictability.

The opening round is expected to test the team’s resolve, especially with rising competition across the league.

The triumph of Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors last season has further highlighted the increasing balance and competitiveness within the NBSL.

For Kebbi Fishers, the immediate focus will be on securing early victories to set the tone for their title push. Playing on home sand could provide a crucial advantage, but Muhammad insists consistency and focus will be key.

As the 2026 season gets underway, all eyes will be on Kebbi Fishers to see if they can convert preparation and experience into a commanding start and, ultimately, a return to the summit of Nigerian beach soccer.

Kebbi Fishers BSC are entering the 2026 NBSL season with a clear focus on reclaiming their title after last year's narrow final defeat. With the advantage of playing the opening round on home sand and a squad bolstered by intensive training, the team aims to establish early dominance in the league. Hassan Muhammad’s call for consistency highlights the team's awareness of the growing competition in Nigerian beach soccer.
