NAWF Unveils 172-Man Squad for 2025 African Armwrestling Championship in Abuja

Posted : 27 June 2025

In a bold show of intent and rising momentum, the Nigeria Armwrestling Federation (NAWF) has officially released its 172-member team list for the 14th African Armwrestling Championship, scheduled to take place in Abuja from July 23–27, 2025.

The contingent, Nigeria's largest-ever, comprises elite male and female pullers, para-athletes, and emerging youth prospects. The final squad emerged following an intensive national selection process and is now camped at TDC Camp, Abuja, the designated pre-championship training base.

This move signals Nigeria’s full commitment to not only hosting but also dominating the continental championship, which is expected to welcome over 20 participating African nations.

Speaking on the development, Engr. Samuel Jackson, President of the Nigeria Armwrestling Federation, described the team announcement as a defining moment:

“This team reflects the heart of Nigerian sport; resilient, unified, and battle-ready. From seasoned champions to emerging youth talents, we are poised to deliver not just participation, but dominance. The world will feel Nigeria’s strength and spirit at the armwrestling table this July.”

The TDC Camp has already become a hub of focused training, tactical drilling, and team bonding, ensuring top-tier preparation in the lead-up to the championship.

The Local Organizing Committee (LOC), in partnership with NAWF, has secured key partnerships across logistics, branding, and hospitality. Prostar Sports International, the official kit partner, along with other transportation, accommodation, and media sponsors, are working to deliver a landmark event.

With the competition jersey and mascot already unveiled to much acclaim and the announcement of a record-breaking 172-strong team, Nigeria is not only preparing to host but to create a historic, legacy-defining tournament.
