Narváez Beats Mas on Stage 11 as Eulalio Keeps Giro d’Italia Pink Jersey

Posted : 21 May 2026

Jhonatan Narváez claimed a hard-fought victory on stage 11 of the Giro d’Italia, narrowly beating Spain’s Enric Mas in a tense sprint finish after a dramatic day in the mountains. The Ecuadorian rider delivered a late surge to secure his third stage win of the race, while Afonso Eulalio maintained his grip on the leader’s pink jersey.

The decisive moment came after both Narváez and Mas broke clear from a strong escape group on the final climb of the 195-kilometre route from Porcari to Chiavari. Mas launched the initial attack, but Narváez stayed close before overtaking him in the closing metres to take the win.

Narváez later admitted the final kilometres were extremely demanding, crediting Mas for setting a strong pace on the climb. He described the sprint as intense and said he had to manage his effort carefully on both the ascent and descent.

Behind the leading duo, Italy’s Diego Ulissi secured third place after a solid finish for XDS Astana, completing a competitive day for the breakaway riders.

The overall general classification remained unchanged despite the aggressive racing. Eulalio of Bahrain Victorious continues to lead the standings, holding a 27-second advantage over pre-race favourite Jonas Vingegaard.

The stage featured constant attacking from the peloton early on, with multiple breakaway attempts forming before the race settled into a more defined group over the categorised climbs. A 12-rider break eventually established a gap of more than three minutes.

The group was shaken by a crash on a descent, which disrupted several riders and caused the breakaway to fragment further. This opened the door for a decisive move on the final uncategorised climb.

Mas attacked first in a bid to secure a stage win, but Narváez followed closely and refused to let the Spaniard go clear. Their collaboration and rivalry continued until the finish, where Narváez proved stronger in the sprint.

Mas, a three-time runner-up at the Vuelta a España, remains without a stage win in his Giro debut, despite his strong effort on the day.

The main peloton, containing all general classification contenders, arrived more than three minutes after the winner, allowing Eulalio to retain the pink jersey ahead of stage 12, a 175-kilometre flat route from Imperia to Novi Ligure.
