NAqF Targets Next Generation of Swimming Stars as ‘Swim 2 Future’ Registration Ends

cis set to showcase emerging swimming talents as preparations reach the final stage for the second edition of its grassroots initiative, “Swim 2 Future,” scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12.

The Federation has closed registration for the programme after receiving an encouraging response from parents, schools, swimming clubs, coaches and other stakeholders.

The initiative targets children aged five to 14 and is designed to introduce more young Nigerians to competitive swimming while creating a structured pathway for talent identification and development.

NAqF said the strong response to the registration exercise reflects growing interest in swimming at the grassroots and the potential for developing a new generation of aquatics athletes.

The 2026 edition will be held in honour of the late NAqF President, Dr Chamberlain Nnamdi Dunkwu, in recognition of his contributions to aquatics development and his commitment to youth and grassroots sports.

NAqF President Lekan Fatodu thanked parents, schools, clubs, coaches and other stakeholders for supporting the initiative.

“We are grateful to every parent, school, club, coach and stakeholder who supported Swim to the Future. The response to this year’s registration demonstrates the growing interest in swimming and the enormous potential that exists among young Nigerians,” Fatodu said.

He said the Federation was determined to ensure that promising swimmers discovered through the programme receive the support and development opportunities required to progress to the national and international stages.

“Our responsibility is not only to discover talents but also to create the right environment for them to grow.

“We want Swim to the Future to become a platform where the champions of tomorrow are identified, nurtured and given the opportunity to fulfil their potential,” he said.

With registration concluded, attention has now shifted to final preparations for the Sept. 12 event, which will bring together young swimmers, coaches, officials, schools, clubs and other aquatics stakeholders.

The Federation said the event would combine competition with talent discovery and youth development as it continues its drive to strengthen Nigeria’s swimming base.

The second edition is expected to provide another platform for young participants to test their abilities and take their first steps towards becoming future Nigerian swimming stars.
