The Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF) on Wednesday announced that the “Swim to the Future” event, earlier scheduled to hold from March 6 to March 7, 2026, has been rescheduled.
This decision follows the passing of the President of the Federation, Dr. Chamberlain Nnamdi Dunkwu, who died on March 7, 2026.
According to NAqF, Dunkwu was the sole sponsor of the “Swim to the Future” initiative and a passionate advocate for the development of aquatic sports and youth swimming in Nigeria.
The Federation has therefore resolved that the event will now be rescheduled to a new date in April 2026 and will be held in honour of the late President, in recognition of his commitment, leadership, and dedication to the growth of swimming in the country.
"A new date for the event, according to the swimming body, will be communicated through the Federation’s official channels."
In a related development, the Federation announced that the National Junior Swimming Championship – “Swim for Life,” earlier scheduled to hold from April 2 to April 4, 2026, has been postponed.
The championship will now take place from April 9 to April 11, 2026, in Lagos, Nigeria.
This adjustment in schedule is to allow for improved logistical coordination and to ensure the successful organization of the championship, in line with the Federation’s commitment to providing a world-class platform for young swimmers across the country.
"The Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF) regrets any inconvenience these changes may cause and appreciates the understanding and continued support of all stakeholders as the aquatic community mourns the loss of a visionary leader.
"The Federation remains committed to the development of aquatic sports and the discovery of emerging talents through programmes such as “Swim to the Future” and “Swim for Life.”
"Further updates regarding both events will be communicated through the Federation’s official channels."
