Telecommunications giant MTN Nigeria has explained its strategic decision to host the recently concluded 2026 MTN Prestige Golf Classic in Port Harcourt. Corporate executives revealed that the multi-city amateur tournament provides an essential avenue to interact directly with high-value consumers. The private championship took place at the prestigious Golf Section of the Port Harcourt Club in Rivers State.

The exclusive sporting event gathered top-tier amateur golfers from the host club and several neighboring regional institutions. MTN General Manager for Regional Operations in the South-South zone, Ifeanyi Udom, spoke extensively during the closing trophy presentation ceremony. She noted that golf offers a unique lifestyle environment that fosters meaningful corporate networking and strategic collaboration.

The regional manager emphasized that the sport serves as an unconventional catalyst for significant macroeconomic commerce. She explained that major corporate transactions and executive board decisions are often initiated directly on the greens. The company aims to utilize these experiential sports platforms to reinforce relationships outside traditional corporate boardrooms.

Mrs. Ochade Adjabo emerged as the grand winner of the 2026 tournament after a brilliant performance. Representing a combination of the Rumuokwurushi Golf Club and Python Golf Club, she finished with 42 Stableford points. The talented amateur golfer narrowly defeated the tournament's first runner-up by a single point.

The overall champion received an all-expenses-paid trip to watch the upcoming 154th Open Championship in July. The historic international golf major will take place at the iconic Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, United Kingdom. Organizers also distributed premium electronics and custom trophies to various category winners at the closing gala.

The telecom operator announced immediate plans to scale the corporate golf property ahead of future editions. The technical committee is currently working on expanding the tournament bracket to accommodate more regional participants. Management also confirmed that a dedicated women's championship edition will launch later this calendar year.
