MMA champion, Ngannou pays courtesy visit to former Pres. Obasanjo in Abeokuta

Posted : 09 January 2025

Mixed Martial Arts heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou, was in Abeokuta to visit former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The Cameroonian fighter posted on his Instagram page, revealing that he met with the former number one citizen at his country home in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.

The post was accompanied by a photograph of the two of them at Olusegun Obasanjo's home office.

Francis Ngannou's post read: “It was an honor meeting the legendary former Nigerian president, H.E. Olusegun Obasanjo, at his home office in Abeokuta. It was great receiving some words of wisdom from the legend.”

Ngannou, a Cameroonian-French, was seen in Lagos over the weekend celebrating the New Year with some Nigerian celebrities and musicians.

He was pictured hanging out with Burna Boy and close friend Kamaru Usman, a former UFC welterweight champion.

Ngannou is the current world heavyweight champion of the Professional Fighters League, after beating Brazil’s Ricardo Fereira over three months ago.

He famously left the UFC and abandoned his world heavyweight title following a pay dispute with the organization.

Francis Ngannou lost to Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua when he made a foray into professional boxing, with those being his only two bouts as a professional boxer so far.

Coincidentally, Anthony Joshua also spent his Christmas and New Year holiday in Nigeria, where he met with the president of the country, President Bola Tinubu.
