Miyu Yamashita Dominates Canadian Women’s Open to Match LPGA Scoring Record

Posted : 24 August 2026

Miyu Yamashita completed a wire-to-wire triumph at the CPKC Women’s Open on Sunday, closing with a four-under-par 66 to defeat fellow Japanese golfer Yuri Yoshida by nine shots at Royal Mayfair Golf Club in Edmonton.

Yamashita entered the final round with a six-shot advantage and never allowed the chasing pack to seriously threaten her lead. She opened with a birdie at the second hole, responded to a bogey at the fourth with another birdie at the fifth and added four more birdies before finishing with a birdie on the 18th.

Her closing 66 took her to 23-under-par 257, matching the LPGA Tour record for the lowest 72-hole total. The mark was previously set by Sei Young Kim in 2018, although Kim's 257 came at 31-under par because she played on a par-72 course.

The victory was Yamashita's second LPGA Tour title of 2026 and her fourth victory in the space of 13 months. Her recent run includes her breakthrough major triumph at the 2025 Women's British Open, which helped her earn LPGA Rookie of the Year honors.

The 25-year-old had been in control from the opening round, when she fired a course-record 62. She followed that with rounds of 64 and 65 before completing the tournament with her fourth consecutive score of 66 or better. Her 23-under total also established a new scoring record for the Canadian championship.

Yoshida finished runner-up at 14-under after a final-round 69, while South Korea's Sei Young Kim carded a 67 to take third at 13-under. Canada's Anna Huang, aged 17, closed with a 65 to finish tied for fourth alongside Yin Ruoning at 12-under.

Yamashita admitted she felt nervous heading into the final round but trusted her swing and maintained her composure throughout. Her dominant performance leaves her with significant momentum as the LPGA Tour continues its 2026 campaign.
