Michael Brennan Wins Wyndham Championship to Secure FedExCup Playoff Spot

Michael Brennan delivered when it mattered most, producing a spectacular final round to win the Wyndham Championship and earn a place in the PGA TOUR's FedExCup Playoffs. The 24-year-old closed with a 6-under 64, using a remarkable stretch of five consecutive birdies to pull away from Beau Hossler.

Brennan began the final round just one shot behind Hossler but quickly changed the complexion of the contest. Starting at the fourth hole, he converted five straight birdie opportunities, with each putt coming from inside eight feet. The run transformed his deficit into a three-shot advantage by the turn, with Hossler also dropping a shot at the ninth.

The victory represents Brennan's second PGA TOUR title and comes after a difficult regular season in which he had managed only one top-10 finish. His success in Greensboro dramatically changed the outlook for his season, as he entered the tournament ranked 105th in the FedExCup standings.

Brennan's win lifted him 58 places to No. 47 in the FedExCup rankings, comfortably inside the top 70 who qualified for the postseason. He will therefore continue his campaign at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis, with the playoffs beginning Thursday.

The Virginia native, who played his college golf at Wake Forest, said he was determined to avoid another disappointing Sunday after experiencing difficult finishes in recent weeks. His breakthrough at Wyndham ensures his season will continue for at least another week.
