Mia Blichfeldt, despite battling a stomach infection and feeling exhausted, managed to push world No. 2 Wang Zhi Yi to three games at the YONEX-SUNRISE India Open 2025 before exiting in the second round. Blichfeldt, who had been vomiting all night before her match, fought hard in an intense hour-long battle, eventually losing 13-21, 21-16, 21-8, but her resilience impressed both herself and her supporters.
Reflecting on her condition, Blichfeldt explained the difficulties she faced, including sleepless nights due to the illness she contracted on Tuesday. She acknowledged the mental effort it took to step on the court despite her exhaustion and frustration, noting that it was challenging when illnesses interfere with the training and preparation dedicated to such tournaments.
Despite not being at her physical best, Blichfeldt took pride in her performance, particularly after her strong opening win. She adapted her game to suit her energy levels, focusing on controlled play rather than high-speed rallies, and expressed satisfaction with her effort in the match against Wang. She now plans to refocus and look ahead to the European tour, which will start in February and March.
Having recently relocated to France and made significant changes to her training setup, Blichfeldt is motivated by the fresh start with new coaching and a renewed sense of purpose. Her primary goal is to perform well at the European Championships in April, which will be held on home soil, as she continues to push forward in her badminton career.
