McIlroy Shares Early Lead as Masters Tournament Day 1 Unfolds at Augusta

Day 1 of the Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club delivered an exciting start to the first major of the golf season, with firm conditions and fast greens testing even the world’s best players. Under clear skies in Georgia, precision and patience proved essential as the field navigated one of golf’s most iconic and challenging courses.

Defending champion Rory McIlroy made a strong statement to open his title defense, carding a five-under-par 67 to share the clubhouse lead with Sam Burns. McIlroy overcame a steady start to build momentum through the round, showing composure and confidence on a course where he has historically struggled in opening rounds.

Close behind, Scottie Scheffler and Justin Rose remained firmly in contention after solid rounds of three-under-par. Both players created multiple scoring opportunities but were unable to fully capitalize, leaving them within striking distance heading into Day 2.
