Marlen Reusser Storms to Time Trial Victory to Claim First Tour de France Femmes Yellow Jersey

Marlen Reusser produced a commanding performance in the Tour de France Femmes' individual time trial to secure both the stage victory and the first Yellow Jersey of her career.

The reigning world time trial champion completed the 21-kilometre route from Gevrey-Chambertin to Dijon in 27 minutes and 30 seconds, moving into the overall race lead after a flawless display against the clock.

The Swiss rider finished four seconds ahead of Dutch cyclist Lieke Nooijen in the stage, while former Tour winner Demi Vollering placed third to sit 14 seconds behind Reusser in the general classification.

Britain's Zoe Backstedt impressed in her Tour debut, finishing fourth in the stage, just 20 seconds off the winning pace in the race's only time trial.

Monday's stage winner, Sigrid Haugset, was unable to repeat her heroics after her long solo breakaway and slipped from the overall lead to fourth place, more than three minutes behind Reusser.

Defending champion Pauline Ferrand-Prévot also endured a difficult afternoon in the sweltering conditions, conceding over two minutes as the battle for the general classification intensified.

After the race, Reusser revealed that capturing the Yellow Jersey in Dijon had been a long-term objective for both her and the Movistar team. Referring to the plan as "Project Dijon," she explained that the time trial had been targeted for months, making the victory and the race lead even more satisfying after successfully executing their strategy.
