Marc Leishman Dismisses Criticism of LIV Golf’s Impact on Major Performance

Posted : 06 June 2025

Australian golfer Marc Leishman has pushed back against suggestions that LIV Golf players are less prepared for major championships. Leishman, a six-time PGA Tour winner who joined the LIV circuit in 2022, recently secured his return to major competition by qualifying for next week’s U.S. Open at Oakmont.

In response to analyst Brandel Chamblee’s claim that LIV stars like Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau underperformed at the PGA Championship due to the league’s limited format, Leishman firmly disagreed, insisting the LIV schedule supports strong major preparation.

Speaking from the United States via video call, the 41-year-old emphasized that LIV players face strong competition and demanding courses despite the shorter, 54-hole events. He argued that the format increases pressure early in tournaments and allows for better mental and physical conditioning between events.

According to Leishman, the relaxed approach to tournament golf on the LIV tour has actually improved players’ enjoyment and performance, countering the idea that they are at a disadvantage in traditional four-round majors.

Looking ahead to the U.S. Open, Leishman expressed confidence in his current form and readiness to contend. Reflecting on his runner-up finish at the 2015 Open Championship, he acknowledged the unpredictable nature of golf and the fine margins that define major success. However, he believes both his game and mindset are in peak condition, and he's optimistic about capitalizing on the opportunity at Oakmont.
