Ludvig Aberg Withdraws from Wells Fargo Championship Due to Knee Injury

Posted : 07 May 2024

World No. 6 Ludvig Aberg of Sweden has withdrawn from this week's PGA Wells Fargo Championship due to lingering knee soreness, just 10 days before the upcoming PGA Championship. Aberg, who finished as a runner-up at last month's Masters in his major debut, had recently placed 10th at the Heritage tournament, following his performance behind Scottie Scheffler at Augusta National.

With Aberg's withdrawal, the field for the Wells Fargo Championship will now consist of 69 players. American Peter Malnati, who already had a place in the tournament, will take Aberg's qualifying spot.

In a statement, Aberg expressed his disappointment at having to withdraw, citing a knee issue and the advice of his doctors to take additional time to rest. He looks forward to returning to competition at the upcoming major championship at Valhalla in Louisville, Kentucky.

Aberg, 24, earned his tour berth based on his outstanding collegiate performance last year at Texas Tech. He boasts an impressive golfing resume, having won last year's European Masters on the DP World Tour and securing his first PGA title at the RSM Classic last November.

Despite his recent setback, Aberg has demonstrated consistent performance this year, finishing as a runner-up at Pebble Beach in February and placing eighth at The Players Championship. His withdrawal marks a temporary pause in a string of top-10 efforts, with Aberg showcasing his talent with five such finishes in his past eight PGA starts.
