Lucas Herbert Secures First LIV Golf Title with Dominant Victory in Virginia

Posted : 11 May 2026

Lucas Herbert captured the first LIV Golf title of his career after completing an impressive wire-to-wire victory at LIV Golf Virginia on Sunday at Trump National DC in Potomac Falls, Virginia.

The Australian golfer finished the tournament at 24-under-par after closing with a final-round 69, securing a four-shot victory over Spain’s Sergio Garcia. Bryson DeChambeau finished third at 19-under following strong weekend rounds ahead of next week’s PGA Championship.

Herbert laid the foundation for victory with outstanding opening rounds of 64 and 63, building a commanding lead early in the tournament. Despite suffering a double bogey at the ninth hole during the final round, he remained firmly in control and responded with a series of birdies to comfortably protect his advantage.

Over the course of the week, Herbert recorded 29 birdies and an eagle, producing one of the strongest performances of the LIV Golf season so far.

After the victory, the 30-year-old revealed he had battled illness throughout the tournament but remained mentally strong under pressure from Garcia, who pushed him throughout the weekend.

A brief weather delay interrupted the closing stages with Herbert holding a narrow lead, but he handled the situation confidently and finished strongly over the final holes to seal the win.

The victory significantly boosted Herbert’s standing on the LIV Golf circuit, moving him into third place in the season rankings behind Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau. The result also secured him a place at the upcoming US Open.

Before this triumph, Herbert had already collected victories on the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and Asian Tour, but opportunities to compete in major championships had become limited since joining LIV Golf.

Meanwhile, Garcia’s Fireballs GC narrowly missed out on the team title after losing a playoff to Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces GC. David Puig’s costly mistake on the replayed 18th hole ultimately handed the team victory to 4Aces.

LIV Golf is scheduled to continue later this month with LIV Golf Korea, despite ongoing uncertainty surrounding the future financial backing of the series.
