Lorena Wiebes Claims Stage Win at Giro Donne as Henderson Retains Pink Jersey; Pogacar Hits Century with Tour de France Stage Victory

Posted : 09 July 2025

Lorena Wiebes claimed an impressive victory in stage three of the Giro d’Italia Women, outpacing fellow riders in a dramatic sprint finish in Trento. The Dutch sprinter, racing for SD Worx-Protime, held off Great Britain’s Josie Nelson, who secured second place for Team Picnic PostNL, while Wiebes’ teammate Lotte Kopecky crossed the line third.

The stage was marred by a significant crash less than three kilometres from the finish, which split the peloton and left only ten riders to contest the sprint. However, under the 3km rule, all riders involved in the crash were awarded the same finishing time as Wiebes, preserving Anna Henderson’s position at the top of the general classification.

Riding for Lidl-Trek, Henderson continues to wear the pink jersey with a 13-second advantage, though Swiss rider Marlen Reusser trimmed that gap by two seconds during the stage. Reflecting on her win, Wiebes said, “Winning at the Giro d'Italia Women is always special. Kopecky and I were lucky to avoid the crash, and Barbara Guarischi was amazing in helping us get back in position.”

Tadej Pogacar Celebrates 100th Career Win with Stage Four Victory at Tour de France

In the men’s Tour de France, Tadej Pogacar reached a career milestone by claiming his 100th professional victory with a thrilling sprint to win stage four. The Slovenian superstar outsprinted Mathieu van der Poel and Jonas Vingegaard in the final uphill stretch into Rouen, asserting his strength after a series of intense attacks over five categorized climbs in the last 50 kilometres.

Pogacar now shares the same overall time with Van der Poel, who retains the yellow jersey on count-back. The dramatic finish unfolded after Pogacar and Vingegaard broke away on the punishing Rampe Saint-Hilaire, with Pogacar using his teammate Joao Almeida for a decisive lead-out.

“Winning at the Tour is always incredible, and doing so in this jersey while reaching 100 career victories makes it even more special,” Pogacar said. “There were so many strong riders at the front, and I just gave everything.”

It marked Pogacar’s 18th stage win in the Tour de France as he chases a fourth overall title. Meanwhile, Scotland’s Oscar Onley impressed with a resilient ride to finish fourth among the general classification contenders, despite being delayed by a crash. The 22-year-old now sits seventh overall.

The race continues on Wednesday with the first individual time trial of the Tour—a 33km course around Caen—where Remco Evenepoel, the reigning world and Olympic time trial champion, is expected to challenge for the win.
