LIV Golf Cancels Michigan Team Championship as 2026 Season Ends Early

LIV Golf has canceled its scheduled team championship in Michigan, bringing the 2026 season to an earlier-than-planned conclusion. The event, which was due to take place from August 27-30 at The Cardinal at Saint John’s Resort, will instead be decided during this week’s LIV Golf Indianapolis tournament.

The decision allows LIV Golf to redirect its resources toward preparing for the league’s next chapter. Chief executive Scott O’Neil said ending the season now would give the organisation greater scope to focus on its transition and develop a new model built around player ownership and long-term sustainability.

The cancellation comes as LIV prepares for life beyond its Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund backing. The PIF announced earlier this year that it would stop funding the breakaway circuit after the 2026 campaign, while LIV has since said it has secured a new lead investor for its future operations.

Jon Rahm has already secured his third consecutive individual season championship, but the team title remains undecided. The competition will now be settled in Indianapolis, with the performances of all four players on each team contributing to the final standings.

The 4Aces, led by Dustin Johnson, currently sit at the top of the team standings, ahead of Ripper GC, Rahm’s Legion XIII and Bryson DeChambeau’s Crushers GC. The Indianapolis event will therefore determine the 2026 team champion while also serving as the final LIV tournament of the season.

Fans who purchased tickets for the canceled Michigan event will receive refunds. The cancellation marks another significant change for LIV Golf as it attempts to reshape its structure ahead of the 2027 season.
