LIV Golf Announces 93-Player Field for 2024 Promotions Event in Riyadh

Posted : 10 December 2024

LIV Golf has unveiled the 93-player roster for its second Promotions event, scheduled to take place from Thursday to Saturday at Riyadh Golf Club in Saudi Arabia. Among the notable participants is South African Branden Grace, a 15-time winner worldwide and the first golfer to shoot a 62 in a major championship during the 2017 Open.

Grace, who was relegated from LIV Golf at the end of 2024, will aim to reclaim his spot in the league alongside other relegated players such as Finland’s Kalle Samooja and Zimbabwean brothers Kieran and Scott Vincent. Hudson Swafford, who competed as a wild card in 2024, will also attempt to secure a full-time position.

The event features a three-day format with a unique qualification process. A total of 29 players, including the relegated golfers, certain amateurs, and the top three players from the Japan Golf Tour, Korean Tour, Sunshine Tour, and PGA Tour of Australasia, will receive automatic byes into the second round.

In the first round, the remaining 64 players will compete over 18 holes of stroke play, with the top 20 and ties advancing to join the exempted players in Round 2. Scores will reset for another 18 holes of stroke play, after which the top 20 players will progress to the final day.

Saturday’s final stage will see these 20 players compete in 36 holes of stroke play, with the winner earning $200,000 and a guaranteed spot in the 2025 LIV Golf season. Additionally, the top 10 finishers, including ties, will gain full exemptions into the 2025 International Series sanctioned by the Asian Tour, offering further opportunities to compete at an elite level.

This structure aims to provide a fair chance for both established players and rising talents to secure their places in professional golf.

Reflecting on the significance of the event, LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman highlighted the growing interest in the Promotions series, which debuted in 2023. He emphasized the importance of creating pathways for current and emerging stars in the sport to develop their careers. According to Norman, the initiative underscores LIV Golf’s commitment to fostering opportunities and ensuring competitive growth within the global golf landscape.
