Leknessund Claims Emotional First Grand Tour Victory in Vuelta Norwegian One-Two

Norway’s Andreas Leknessund secured his first Grand Tour stage victory by attacking on the final climb to win Stage 7 of the Vuelta a España.

The Uno-X Mobility rider finished 34 seconds ahead of teammate Tobias Halland Johannessen, with Wout van Aert taking third in a memorable Norwegian one-two.

The victory carried extra significance as Norway mourned the death of King Harald V, with Leknessund and Johannessen wearing black armbands in his memory.

Leknessund broke clear of the breakaway with around 7.5km remaining and held his advantage to the finish at Aramón Valdelinares.

Tadej Pogačar finished well behind the stage winner but increased his overall advantage after gaining time on his main rivals late in the climb.

Oscar Onley also strengthened his position in the young riders' classification, while Leknessund celebrated a landmark victory after previous near-misses in Grand Tours.
