Kyren Wilson Stages Epic Comeback to Defeat Stan Moody 10–7 at Crucible

Posted : 21 April 2026

Kyren Wilson produced a remarkable turnaround at the Crucible Theatre, recovering from a 6–2 and 7–3 deficit to defeat teenage debutant Stan Moody 10–7 in a dramatic World Snooker Championship clash. The 2024 world champion showed resilience under pressure, winning seven consecutive frames to complete one of the standout comebacks of the tournament.

The match had looked set for a historic upset as 19-year-old Moody impressed on his Crucible debut, leading 6–3 at the mid-session interval and appearing on course to become one of the youngest winners in Sheffield history since Ronnie O’Sullivan’s early breakthrough in the 1990s. His confident start and attacking play put Wilson under sustained pressure early on.

However, the momentum shifted dramatically as Wilson capitalised on missed opportunities from the teenager. Crucial errors from Moody allowed the experienced champion to claw his way back into the contest, gradually taking control frame by frame before completing his surge with a composed black-ball finish in the deciding frame.

Moody admitted afterwards that costly mistakes changed the outcome, acknowledging that he had chances to extend his lead but failed to capitalise at key moments. Despite the disappointment, he expressed determination to learn from the experience and return stronger in future championships.

The young Englishman’s journey to the Crucible was already notable, having qualified through two tough matches. Just days before his final qualifier, he was hospitalised with tonsillitis but discharged himself against medical advice to compete, ultimately securing his place with a dramatic deciding-frame victory.

For Wilson, the win reinforces his status as one of snooker’s most resilient competitors, while Moody exits the tournament with growing recognition after pushing a world champion to the limit in a memorable debut performance.
