Kwibuka T20 Tournament: Female Yellow Greens earn diplomatic praise after podium finish

Posted : 18 June 2026

Nigeria's women's cricket team, the Female Yellow Greens, received special recognition from the country's diplomatic mission in Rwanda following their impressive third-place finish at the 2026 Kwibuka T20 Women's Tournament in Kigali.

The team was hosted by Nigeria's Acting High Commissioner to Rwanda, Ambassador Ibrahim Zanna, at his residence before departing the East African nation after a successful campaign.

Ambassador Zanna commended the players and officials for their commitment, discipline, and determination throughout the tournament, noting that they had represented Nigeria with distinction on the international stage.

The Female Yellow Greens delivered a series of strong performances during the competition to secure a podium finish among the participating nations, further underlining the growth of women's cricket in Nigeria.

The annual Kwibuka T20 Women's Tournament, staged in Rwanda, honours the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi while promoting the development of women's cricket across the globe.

Nigeria's third-place finish is another positive step for the Female Yellow Greens as they continue preparations for upcoming continental and international assignments.

The team has since returned home with valuable experience and renewed confidence following its successful outing in Kigali.

The warm diplomatic reception highlights the significant value placed on sporting achievements as a tool for international pride and unity. With this successful tournament concluded, the team looks well-positioned to build upon this positive momentum for future international challenges. The development of women's cricket in Nigeria continues to showcase immense potential on the global stage.
