The inaugural Kwara State Horse Show is set to gallop off on Saturday with a 30-kilometre horse marathon, designed to showcase the newly constructed and upgraded roads across Ilorin by the state government.
Organized in partnership with the Kwara State Government, the event aims to highlight the beauty of equestrian sports and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the people.
The show is convened by Ilorin-born expert horse rider, Ambassador Aliu Bolaji Magaji Nda.
The Chairman of the Main Organising Committee, Jemila AbdulHameed Atata, stated that the marathon will commence at Unity Bikers Club, while the grand finale on Sunday at Queen Elizabeth School, Ilorin, will feature a horseball tournament with 10 competitive teams in a world-class display.
She assured that adequate security and medical support have been put in place to ensure a smooth and safe event.
“The tournament will feature female, children, and adult categories, with the star prize being a brand-new horse,” Atata explained.
She also revealed plans to introduce a polo tournament in the future, noting that the Horse Show provides an opportunity to demonstrate Kwara State’s peaceful, serene, and welcoming atmosphere.
Ambassador Aliu Magaji Nda described the initiative as a community-driven program aimed at discovering and promoting local horse riders. Participants, drawn from within and outside Ilorin, will showcase their skills in a sport with deep cultural and historical roots in the Ilorin Emirate.
Ambassador Nda, a seasoned horseman, has been widely celebrated for his aesthetic and impressive performances, including appearances at the Ilorin Emirate Grand Durbar.
