Kristoffer Reitan produced a composed and decisive performance to claim his first PGA Tour title at the Truist Championship, winning a tense back-nine battle in the final round at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The Norwegian rookie carded a two-under-par 69 to finish at 15-under 269, securing a $3.6 million prize in his 15th PGA Tour start. The victory made him only the second Norwegian ever to win on the PGA Tour, joining compatriot Viktor Hovland.
Reitan admitted he was overwhelmed by the achievement, describing the win as beyond anything he had expected so early in his career. He revealed that just a few years ago, he had even considered stepping away from professional golf before rediscovering his form and passion for the sport.
The 25-year-old credited that period of reflection for helping him rebuild his game and confidence, which ultimately led to his breakthrough victory on one of golf’s biggest stages.
American Rickie Fowler and Denmark’s Nicolai Højgaard finished tied for second place on 13-under-par, while England’s Alex Fitzpatrick, who led after 54 holes, slipped to fourth after a final-round 73.
Fitzpatrick, however, praised Reitan’s performance, acknowledging that the Norwegian fully deserved the win after a strong closing stretch.
The tournament has historically been a breakthrough stage for future stars, with past winners at Quail Hollow including Rory McIlroy, Fowler, and Max Homa. McIlroy, returning fresh from his recent Masters triumph, also delivered a strong performance but finished well outside contention.
The event served as an important warm-up for next week’s PGA Championship, where world number one Scottie Scheffler will defend his title.
Reitan made his decisive move on the back nine, birdieing key holes including the 14th and 15th to take control of the leaderboard. Despite pressure from several challengers, he held firm with clutch putting down the stretch to secure a memorable victory.
