Paris 2024 Olympian, Esther Kolawole, is set to participate in this year's Spanish Wrestling Grand Prix, scheduled to hold from July 4 to 7, 2025.
After the competition in Spain, the reigning African champion will proceed to Budapest, Hungary, for the World Wrestling Ranking Series from July 14 to 19, as part of her preparations for the 2025 World Wrestling Championships in Croatia this September.
Kolawole will be accompanied by Nigeria National Women’s Wrestling Coach, Akuh Purity, on both international trips.
The Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) says it is leaving nothing to chance in its efforts to expose Nigerian athletes to international competitions in order to ensure optimal performance.
National team coach, Akuh Purity, speaking on behalf of the NWF through Promise Okotoko, expressed optimism that Esther Kolawole would give a strong account of herself.
Akuh Purity said, “We are heading to these tournaments to compete. However, we also want to expose our wrestlers by allowing them to face international opponents in such events.”
“In doing so, we can assess their strength and track their progress at regular intervals to monitor improvements and adjust training accordingly.”
Meanwhile, at the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid, Esther Kolawole (62kg) and Ogunsanya Christinah (53kg) both won bronze medals for Team Nigeria.
