Kim Si-woo Fires Stunning 60 to Build Commanding Lead at CJ Cup Byron Nelson

Posted : 23 May 2026

Kim Si-woo produced a sensational performance at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, carding an 11-under-par 60 to establish a commanding five-shot lead heading into the final stages of the tournament in Texas.

The South Korean star came agonisingly close to recording one of the rare sub-60 rounds in PGA Tour history before a bogey on the final hole denied him the milestone. Despite the late disappointment, his remarkable round at TPC Craig Ranch placed him firmly in control of the competition on 18-under overall.

Kim’s round featured 12 birdies and showcased exceptional putting throughout the day. His memorable run included a long birdie putt at the 17th hole, which briefly raised hopes of a historic 59. However, an overly aggressive approach shot at the final hole sailed beyond the green, and he failed to save par.

Reflecting on his performance, Kim admitted the closing bogey was frustrating but said he remained delighted with the quality of his play overall. He described the round as one of the best of his career and credited both his ball striking and putting for the outstanding score.

Defending champion Scottie Scheffler remained among the chasing group after shooting an impressive 63. Scheffler, who played alongside Kim, praised the South Korean’s incredible form and admitted it was difficult to keep pace with such relentless scoring.

Im Sung-jae also surged up the leaderboard after producing a 10-under 61 that included a hole-in-one and a closing eagle. Japanese rookie Kensei Hirata and former US Open champion Wyndham Clark also remained in contention near the top of the standings.

Meanwhile, Jordan Spieth thrilled local fans with a nine-under 62 that featured a remarkable stretch of six consecutive birdies. Spieth said the atmosphere within his group, particularly alongside Im, helped fuel the aggressive scoring.

Kim’s dominant display now leaves him in a strong position heading into the closing rounds as he chases another PGA Tour victory and attempts to hold off a world-class chasing pack.
