KFN Unveils Fresh Blueprint to Reposition Nigerian Karate

The Karate Federation of Nigeria has unveiled a new administrative and technical blueprint aimed at improving governance, competition and athlete development across the country. The measures were approved at the first board meeting under President Chukwudi Dimkpa in Abuja.

Dimkpa called for unity, professionalism, accountability and strict compliance with the federation's constitution. His administration's focus comes after the National Sports Commission reaffirmed him as KFN president in July, ending a leadership dispute that had followed the federation's 2025 election.

Several committees were constituted to oversee important areas of the federation. Florrie Omueti will chair the Marketing, Sponsorship, Partnership and Finance Committee, while Zainab Saleh will lead the Organising, Competition and Welfare Committee.

Bashari Maizari was appointed chairman of the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee. Oluwasogo Ogunleye will head the Youth, School Sports and Women Committee, while James Aina takes charge of the Technical Committee and Olusegun Akinola becomes chairman of the Nigeria Karate Referee Commission.

The board also approved new structures for coaches, para-karate, national grading, university karate and domestic league administration. These include the Nigeria Karate Coaches Association, Nigeria Para-Karate Commission, National Grading/Homologation Committee, Nigeria University Karate Association and Nigerian Karate League Commission.

Dave Jegede was also restored to full participation in federation activities after his suspension was lifted. He was subsequently appointed KFN Technical Director, giving the federation a dedicated official to coordinate technical programmes and athlete development.

Ohis Asein, the chief executive officer of FAKS MEDIA, was appointed Head of Media. His responsibilities will include improving publicity, information management and communication around the federation's activities.

The board also granted technical approval for the Nigerian Karate League. The planned competition is expected to give athletes more regular domestic opportunities while helping the federation identify and develop talent across the country.

Amakiri Oruamabo was co-opted into the board and appointed chairman of the Nigerian Karate League Commission. The league is expected to become part of a wider programme covering August 2026 to August 2027.

International competition is also part of the new administration's plans. The board approved Nigeria's participation in the UFAK African Championship in Algeria from September 6 to 13, with officials directed to begin preparations for Team Nigeria.

The federation also approved measures aimed at improving its financial sustainability and digital operations. Sponsorship facilitation fees will be considered individually, while officials were instructed to restore, update and secure the KFN website and official social media platforms.

The reforms come as Dimkpa begins a new tenure after the NSC called for reconciliation and urged all karate stakeholders to support a unified administration.

The new board is now expected to turn its programme into practical competitions, technical development and stronger administration as it seeks to raise Nigeria's profile in African and international karate.
