Kayle Wykes delivered a superb six-under-par 66 in the second round of the Betway Big Easy Tour #4 on Wednesday, moving into a share of the lead at eight-under overall alongside overnight leader Jacquin Hess.
Playing in cold and windy conditions at Benoni Country Club, Wykes showcased remarkable composure and tactical play. His strong start included an eagle and two birdies on the back nine, and though he dropped shots on holes six and seven, a closing birdie sealed his bogey-busting round.
Reflecting on his performance, Wykes admitted the setup was particularly challenging due to tough pin placements and blustery winds. “You couldn’t just aim for the pin—you had to think about where to place it for an uphill putt,” he said.
Despite the difficulty, Wykes felt he scrambled well and credited his ability to keep shots under the wind. With one round remaining, he’s prepared for the pressure and excitement of being in contention, saying, “All I have to do is commit to every shot.”
Australia’s Austin Bautista sits in solo third at seven-under after a steady 71, while Vaughn Van Deventer surged up the leaderboard with a 67 to claim fourth. As the Sunshine Tour’s feeder circuit, the Betway Big Easy Tour continues to showcase rising talents, with the final round promising a fierce battle for the title and the support of figures like Ernie Els adding prestige to the event.
