Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney Conquers Mont Ventoux to Win Stage and Take Yellow Jersey

Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney produced a sensational solo ride on Mont Ventoux to claim her first-ever Tour de France Femmes stage victory and move into the overall lead.

The Polish rider delivered a decisive attack during the final climb of Stage 7, turning the queen stage into a memorable triumph.

The 31-year-old Canyon-SRAM rider started the 146.8km stage from La Voulte-sur-Rhône in third place overall, 1 minute and 17 seconds behind Marlen Reusser, with Demi Vollering occupying second.

Niewiadoma-Phinney waited until around 9.5km from the summit before making her move and gradually opened a significant gap over her main rivals.

Niewiadoma-Phinney reached the summit 1 minute and 16 seconds ahead of Vollering, while Reusser finished a further 30 seconds behind.

The result lifted the 2024 Tour champion to the top of the general classification, where she now holds a 15-second advantage over Vollering and 39 seconds over Reusser.

The victory was particularly emotional for Niewiadoma-Phinney, who dedicated the result to the people who had supported her throughout her career.

She was also surprised to see her parents near the climb, with the moment adding to the significance of her breakthrough Tour stage win.

The race now heads towards its decisive final weekend. Stage 8 takes the peloton from Sisteron to Nice before Sunday's final mountain stage around Nice provides one last opportunity for Vollering and Reusser to challenge Niewiadoma-Phinney for the yellow jersey.
