The Technical Director of the Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN), Dave Jegede, said on Tuesday that every athlete participating in the 2025 African Karate Championship in Abuja would be provided with a befitting environment to compete.
Jegede made this statement in Abuja following the commencement of the championship on Monday at the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.
The championship, which hosts participants from 31 countries, is scheduled to end on Sunday.
“The federation has done everything to ensure an interesting and successful event,” Jegede stated.
According to him, the Nigerian team has undergone rigorous training to ensure a strong performance, with athletes competing in four categories.
“Our athletes are determined to make the country proud in their competitions. We urge all participants to be good ambassadors of their countries.
We want all our foreign visitors to feel at home and do their best in the competition,” he said.
He added that the federation was committed to providing quality training programs, certified instructors, and modern facilities for athletes at all levels.
Jegede emphasized that strict standards would be regulated and enforced in accordance with international governing bodies such as the Union of African Karate Federations (UFAK) and the World Karate Federation (WKF).

Jegede listed the 31 participating countries, including: Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Chad, Comoros, Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Egypt, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Libya, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritius, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sudan, Tunisia, and host Nigeria.
