Junior Yellow Greens Crush Mozambique by 407 Runs in U19 World Cup Qualifier

Nigeria's Junior Yellow Greens produced a dominant performance in the ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup Africa Qualifier Division 2, defeating Mozambique by 407 runs at the IPRC Oval in Kigali, Rwanda. The victory strengthened Nigeria's position in the promotion race and extended their winning run in the competition.

Nigeria posted a tournament-high 461 for six in 50 overs after an outstanding batting display. Four players contributed 385 runs, with captain Ali Rahmon, Hossana Omonkhobhio, Peculiar Egemasi and Bright Edem Nyong providing the foundation and late acceleration.

Omonkhobhio made 84 from 73 balls, hitting 11 fours and two sixes. Rahmon added 41 from 46 deliveries, giving Nigeria a solid platform before the middle order took control of the innings.

Egemasi then produced a superb 123 from 84 balls. His innings included 18 fours and three sixes as Nigeria steadily increased the pressure on Mozambique's bowlers.

Bright Edem Nyong provided the biggest highlight of the innings. He smashed an unbeaten 137 from only 53 balls, striking 11 fours and 12 sixes at a remarkable strike rate of 258.49.

Mozambique's response never got going. Nigeria's bowlers dismissed the opposition for just 54 in 23 overs, completing a 407-run victory.

Kenneth Boniface led the bowling attack with three wickets for 13 runs from three overs. Princewill Chigozie claimed two for eight from eight overs, including four maiden overs, while Egemasi completed an outstanding all-round performance with three wickets for one run from a single over.

Mozambique lost wickets regularly as Nigeria maintained pressure throughout the innings. Eight of their batters failed to reach double figures, while Rodriguez Mangue top-scored with only 19 runs.

The result moved Nigeria into second position on the tournament standings behind Uganda. The Junior Yellow Greens have one match remaining against Sierra Leone on August 15, with the team now well placed in the race for promotion to Division One.

Former Nigeria coach Uthe Ogbimi praised the team's performance and described it as "neat work". He also warned that the next stage would be significantly tougher, urging the young players to maintain their standards and continue earning selection through performances.

The Junior Yellow Greens' latest victory underlined their strength in both batting and bowling. Their final group match against Sierra Leone will provide another opportunity to finish the campaign strongly and strengthen their position on the road to the next stage of the ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup pathway.
