Junior Yellow Greens Crush Mozambique by 407 Runs in Kigali

Nigeria's Junior Yellow Greens produced a remarkable all-round display on Thursday, defeating Mozambique by 407 runs in their fourth match of the ICC U-19 World Cup qualifying campaign in Kigali, Rwanda. The victory was built on a record-breaking batting performance and a ruthless bowling display.

Nigeria won the toss at the IPRC Kigali College Oval and chose to bat first. The decision quickly proved effective as the Junior Yellow Greens established a strong platform before finishing their 50 overs on 461 for six.

Captain Rahmon Ali and Hossana Omonkhobio provided the early foundation. Ali scored 41 from 46 balls before being dismissed in the 15th over with Nigeria on 89, while Keneth Boniface added 17 after his impressive 97 against Uganda in the previous match.

Omonkhobio continued to anchor the innings with an important 84 from 73 balls. He found support from Peculiar Egemasi, who produced an excellent 123 from 84 deliveries to keep Nigeria's scoring rate high.

Nyong then delivered the innings' defining performance. The Nigerian batter smashed an unbeaten 137 from just 53 balls, providing a spectacular finish that lifted the Junior Yellow Greens to 461 for six.

His innings was particularly destructive and ensured Nigeria entered the second innings with an enormous advantage. The total also gave the bowlers significant room for error as they prepared to defend the biggest score of the match.

Mozambique's response lasted only 23 overs. Nigeria's bowlers consistently took wickets and prevented their opponents from establishing meaningful partnerships.

Rodrigues Mangue top-scored for Mozambique with 19 runs from 13 balls. Emerson Ndzeute added 11 from 16 deliveries, but no other batter reached double figures as the Mozambican side collapsed to 54 all out.

Nigeria therefore completed a massive 407-run victory. The margin underlined the difference between the two sides and further strengthened the Junior Yellow Greens' campaign in the African qualification competition.

The result also highlighted Nigeria's balance across both departments. The batters produced 461 runs, while the bowlers followed by dismissing the opposition for a fraction of that total.

With the qualification campaign continuing, the Junior Yellow Greens will now look to build on the momentum generated by this emphatic victory. Their performances in Kigali have placed them in a strong position as they pursue a place at the ICC U-19 World Cup.
