Junior Female YellowGreens Thrash Malawi, Maintain Perfect Start

Posted : 01 September 2026

Nigeria’s Junior Female YellowGreens maintained their perfect start at the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier Division 1 with a 94-run victory over Malawi on Monday in Tanzania.

The victory was largely powered by a devastating bowling display as Nigeria dismissed Malawi for 58 in 18.3 overs after posting 152 for seven in 20 overs.

The victory was Nigeria’s second consecutive win after defeating Uganda by four wickets in their opening fixture.

Jennifer Godwin spearheaded Nigeria’s bowling attack, claiming four wickets for five runs in 2.3 overs as Malawi struggled to establish meaningful partnerships.

Shola Adekunle also impressed with the ball, taking two wickets for four runs in four overs, including a maiden, while Anointed Akhigbe claimed two wickets for 10 runs in three overs.

Nigeria reduced Malawi to 31 for five before eventually dismissing the side for 58 in 18.3 overs.

Sphiwe Frank top-scored for Malawi with 24 runs, while Shavon Akileni added 14, but their efforts were insufficient to mount a challenge against Nigeria’s total.

Earlier, Nigeria had posted a competitive 152 for seven, with Adekunle producing the highest individual score of 32 from 27 balls.

Adekunle’s innings included five boundaries and came at a strike rate of 118.52, before she returned with the ball to claim two wickets.

Omosigho Eguakun and Beauty Oguai contributed 26 runs each, with Oguai hitting four boundaries from 28 deliveries.

Nigeria captain Christabel Chukwuonye added a quick 20 from 12 balls, including two fours and a six, at a strike rate of 166.67.

Inyene Umoh scored 17 from 14 balls, while Jennifer Godwin and Jessica Bieni contributed valuable late runs to help Nigeria reach 152 for seven.

Adekunle was named Player of the Match after her all-round contribution of 32 runs and two wickets for four runs.

The victory moved Nigeria to the top of Group A with four points and a net run rate of 3.467 after two matches.

The Junior Female YellowGreens will now look to sustain their impressive form as they continue their quest for qualification for the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup.

Nigeria 152/7 (20 overs) defeated Malawi 58 all out (18.3 overs) by 94 runs.
