Junior Female YellowGreens Begin U-19 World Cup Qualifier with Uganda Victory

Nigeria’s Junior Female YellowGreens began their campaign at the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier Division 1 in Tanzania on a winning note, defeating Uganda by four wickets.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nigeria restricted Uganda to 59 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs after the Ugandan side won the toss and elected to bat.

Shadiah Gilingish Nabulime top-scored for Uganda with 22 runs off 34 balls, while Jimia Abdallah Mohamed contributed 13 runs from 25 deliveries.

Nigeria’s bowlers produced a disciplined performance, with Chisom Okpe claiming two wickets for four runs in four overs, while Peace Usen also took two wickets for 12 runs.

Needing 60 runs to secure victory, Nigeria appeared to be in control before Uganda’s Tino Sarah mounted a strong challenge with the ball.

Sarah claimed five wickets for 13 runs in four overs, including two maiden overs, as the Nigerian batters lost wickets at regular intervals.

However, the Junior Female YellowGreens held their nerve to complete the chase, with Omosigho Eguakun providing the platform with a patient 24 runs off 29 balls.

Christabel Chukwuonye added an attacking 13 runs from 10 deliveries, including three boundaries, to help Nigeria cross the finish line.

The result gives Nigeria a positive start as the team continues its quest for progression to the next stage of the global qualification pathway.

Zeal Ibe, Media Manager of the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), disclosed the result in a statement issued to newsmen on Sunday in Lagos.
