JT Poston Wins Memorial Tournament After Dramatic Playoff Victory Over Ryan Gerard

Posted : 08 June 2026

JT Poston claimed the Memorial Tournament title on Sunday after defeating fellow American Ryan Gerard in a tense playoff, securing his fourth PGA Tour victory at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio.

Poston, who had surrendered a four-shot advantage earlier in the final round, managed to force extra holes with a clutch birdie on the last regulation hole. The 33-year-old then held his nerve on the second playoff hole, sinking a short par putt to seal a hard-fought victory.

The win marked Poston’s first PGA Tour title since the 2024 Shriners Children’s Open in Las Vegas and capped a long day of competition, as he played 33 holes due to weather delays that affected the schedule.

Reflecting on the victory, Poston described the triumph as a test of patience and resilience, admitting that he had not produced his best golf early in the round but remained determined to finish strongly. He added that visualising a handshake with tournament host Jack Nicklaus motivated him through the closing stretch.

Gerard pushed him all the way, producing a superb birdie on the 17th hole to briefly take the lead. He closed with a four-under 68 to match Poston on 12-under 276 after 72 holes, forcing the playoff after Poston birdied the 18th in regulation play.

In the playoff, both players parred the first extra hole before returning to the 18th again. After both missed the fairway, Gerard’s long birdie attempt stopped short, while Poston left himself a testing par putt. He converted from roughly three and a half feet after Gerard missed his attempt, securing the title in dramatic fashion.

American Wyndham Clark finished third on 277 after a final-round 67, while Sam Burns and England’s Tommy Fleetwood shared fourth place on 278.

The final round featured multiple momentum swings, with several players sharing or trading the lead late into the day. Fleetwood briefly surged ahead after an eagle on the 15th hole, while Burns and Clark also featured prominently before late bogeys and birdies reshaped the leaderboard.

Poston had begun the day strongly during the completion of the weather-delayed third round, building a four-shot advantage. However, he struggled to maintain control in the final round and only secured victory after a dramatic comeback and playoff resolution.

Top-ranked Scottie Scheffler finished tied for eighth on 284 alongside second-ranked Rory McIlroy and reigning US Open champion J.J. Spaun, all ending a demanding week at Muirfield Village.
