Jordan Spieth has not won a major championship in eight years and hasn’t claimed any tournament victory in the past three, yet bettors remain optimistic that the 31-year-old could complete the career grand slam at this week’s PGA Championship.
Despite his recent dry spell, Spieth has attracted significant attention at BetRivers, making him the biggest liability for the bookmaker. He has received 4.2% of the total bets and 3.8% of the money wagered on the winner at Quail Hollow. Spieth’s odds started at +4000 but have since lengthened to +6000.
Rory McIlroy recently captured his first major in over a decade by winning the Masters, securing his own career grand slam. However, McIlroy holds a much stronger position than Spieth, currently ranked No. 2 worldwide and having already secured two wins in 2025.
Spieth’s last victory was at the 2022 RBC Heritage, and he currently ranks 48th globally. His recent form has been mixed, including a tie for 34th place at the Truist Championship last week, though he has earned three top-10 finishes this year—none of which came in major or high-profile events.
At BetMGM, the biggest betting focus remains world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who is co-favorite at +500 alongside McIlroy. Scheffler has attracted 27.8% of the money wagered on the championship, with McIlroy following at 15.6%.
Another key figure in the betting is Bryson DeChambeau from LIV Golf, whose odds have shortened dramatically from +2200 to +800 due to strong support, accounting for 13% of the money backing. According to BetMGM’s senior trader Matt Wall, Spieth’s potential victory would be the most challenging outcome for bookmakers, with Scheffler and DeChambeau also drawing heavy interest.
Scheffler is also the top favorite to lead after the first round, followed by DeChambeau and McIlroy. Meanwhile, McIlroy finishing in the top five is the most popular prop bet of the tournament. As bettors wager heavily on these players, the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow promises intense competition, with Spieth’s longshot bid to join the elite club of career grand slam winners adding an intriguing storyline to the event.
