Jonas Vingegaard Wins Stage 7 at Giro d’Italia

Posted : 15 May 2026

Jonas Vingegaard delivered a dominant performance to win Stage 7 of the Giro d'Italia, marking a milestone achievement as he completed stage victories across all three Grand Tours. The Danish rider made his decisive move on the brutal Blockhaus climb, which stretches 13.6km with gradients reaching up to 14%. With 5.5km remaining, Vingegaard surged ahead of his rivals and never looked back, showcasing superior endurance and climbing strength.

He set a new record for the ascent, completing the climb in 38 minutes and 22 seconds, and finished 13 seconds ahead of Austria’s Felix Gall. Australia’s Jai Hindley came in third on the demanding 244km stage, the longest in a Grand Tour in five years.

The victory adds to Vingegaard’s growing legacy, as he has now secured stage wins in the Giro d’Italia, Tour de France, and Vuelta a España, having already claimed overall victories in the latter two. His latest success also moved him up to second in the general classification, trailing leader Afonso Eulalio by 3 minutes and 17 seconds.

Speaking after the race, Vingegaard said he was pleased to regain time on his rivals and described the stage as a strong day for both himself and his team. He also acknowledged Gall as one of his main challengers for the overall standings, praising the Austrian’s strength in the mountains.

The win further strengthens Vingegaard’s bid to become only the eighth rider in history to complete stage victories across all three Grand Tours.
