Jonas Vingegaard has brought his 2026 racing season to an early end as he continues to recover from the collarbone fracture he suffered during the Tour de France. Team Visma | Lease a Bike confirmed that the two-time Tour champion will not return to competition this year.
The 29-year-old Dane had enjoyed an impressive campaign before his Tour crash, winning Paris-Nice, the Volta a Catalunya and the Giro d’Italia. His Giro triumph completed his collection of cycling’s three Grand Tours, having previously won the Tour de France in 2022 and 2023 and the Vuelta a España in 2025.
Vingegaard was second overall at the Tour behind eventual champion Tadej Pogačar when he crashed on the 15th stage and was forced to abandon the race. The injury has delayed the start of his training, making it impossible for him to regain peak fitness in time for the remaining races of the season.
The Danish rider said his original plan already included a period of recovery after the Tour, but the collarbone injury pushed back his training schedule. He will now concentrate on rehabilitation and building toward his objectives for the 2027 campaign rather than rushing back for late-season races.
Vingegaard's decision also rules him out of the major events remaining on the calendar, including the World Championships. His focus will instead be on making a full recovery and establishing the foundations for another competitive season.
