Jon Rahm delivered a commanding performance to win the LIV Golf Mexico City event on Sunday, securing a six-shot victory while wider questions continue to circulate about the long-term future of the breakaway tour. The Spanish star closed with a brilliant seven-under-par 64 to finish at 21 under, underlining his dominance across the tournament.
The victory comes at a time of uncertainty for LIV Golf, following reports suggesting that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) may be reconsidering its financial backing of the series. Despite these concerns, LIV Golf executives have publicly insisted that the tour remains stable, with chief executive Scott O’Neil stating that the season will continue without interruption. The league has also confirmed a return to Mexico’s Chapultepec Golf Club next year.
On the course, Rahm was in control from the decisive stages of the event, pulling clear of the field to secure his second LIV Golf win of the season. He finished well ahead of compatriots David Puig and Josele Ballester, who completed an all-Spanish top three. Rahm also enjoyed success in the team competition, guiding Legion XIII to victory alongside Tyrrell Hatton, Tom McKibbin, and Caleb Surratt.
Rahm admitted he was surprised by the scale of his win, especially given his struggles just a week earlier at the Masters. He described his performance as unexpected, saying he would not have predicted such a dominant result after a difficult showing in his previous outing.
Elsewhere, Bryson DeChambeau, who had won the two previous LIV events, withdrew before the final round due to a wrist injury, opening the door further for Rahm’s comfortable triumph.
Since its launch in 2022, LIV Golf has significantly reshaped the professional game, attracting top players with lucrative contracts and sparking tension with established tours. Although discussions about a broader merger involving the PGA Tour and DP World Tour remain ongoing, no final agreement has yet been reached.
