Jon Rahm Keeps LIV Golf Future Unclear Amid Ongoing Turmoil

Jon Rahm has refused to reveal whether he plans to remain with LIV Golf beyond 2026, admitting that he is becoming increasingly accustomed to uncertainty surrounding the breakaway circuit.

The Spaniard is preparing for this week's Irish Open at Doonbeg in County Clare as LIV Golf faces a major transition following the decision by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) to end its financial backing after the 2026 season.

Asked whether he now has a clearer idea of what lies ahead, Rahm indicated that little had changed since his previous comments. He suggested that several possibilities remain open and that the situation will ultimately become clearer with time.

Rahm also acknowledged that uncertainty is nothing new for players who joined LIV Golf. The two-time major champion said he has become "pretty good at dealing with turbulence" after experiencing several periods of instability since moving to the circuit.

LIV Golf's future has come under renewed scrutiny in recent months. The PIF has invested more than $5 billion in the league since its launch but decided that continued investment no longer fitted its strategy. LIV subsequently began looking for new financial partners.

The league's 2026 campaign also ended earlier than originally planned after its scheduled team championship in Michigan was cancelled. LIV has since announced that it secured a lead investor, although the proposed funding arrangement was still being finalized.

The uncertainty has also affected LIV's workforce, with the organization announcing in August that it was scaling back operations and laying off the majority of its staff as it prepared for its next phase.

Rahm's immediate focus, however, is on the DP World Tour. Following the Irish Open, he is scheduled to compete at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, the tour's flagship event.

Rahm and fellow LIV player Tyrrell Hatton were among those who benefited from an agreement with the DP World Tour earlier this year that allowed selected LIV players to compete without sanctions. That arrangement only covers the 2026 season, leaving Rahm's position for next year uncertain.

Several major champions have already chosen a different route. Brooks Koepka has returned to the PGA Tour, while Patrick Reed is also planning a return. When asked whether he could follow them back, Rahm offered no firm commitment, instead indicating that the situation would have to play out before he makes a decision.
