Jon Rahm Agrees to Leave LIV Golf, Giving Up More Than $100 Million

Posted : 15 October 2026

Spanish golf star Jon Rahm has reached a separation agreement with LIV Golf, giving up his outstanding financial claims against the breakaway circuit in exchange for control of his name, image and likeness rights. The agreement, detailed in documents filed with a US bankruptcy court, marks a significant step towards ending his involvement with the Saudi-backed league.

The deal follows Rahm’s decision not to participate in LIV Golf’s proposed restructuring, known as LIV 2.0. His lawyer informed a New Jersey bankruptcy court last week that the two-time major champion had reviewed the proposed terms and decided against continuing with the league.

Rahm was LIV Golf’s largest unsecured creditor when the organisation filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September, with approximately $7.5 million owed for previous events. However, reports indicate that he was also entitled to more than $100 million in future guaranteed payments under the lucrative contract he signed after leaving the PGA Tour in December 2023.

The agreement allows Rahm to walk away from those financial claims and recover his commercial rights. LIV Golf will retain permission to reference his participation in previous tournaments for historical purposes, while Rahm regains control of his name, image and likeness, along with the “Rahmbo” and “Legion XIII” brands. Restrictions apply to using his former team’s name in another league.

The 31-year-old enjoyed considerable success during his three seasons with LIV Golf, winning the individual season championship each year. He also claimed four tournament victories, including titles in the United Kingdom and Chicago in 2024, followed by wins in Hong Kong and Mexico City in 2026.

Rahm joined LIV in a deal widely reported to be worth around $300 million or more. His departure comes after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund withdrew its financial backing, leaving the league working to secure a sustainable future.

LIV Golf is now considering whether to continue under a revamped model or wind down its operations. A proposed investment of up to $300 million from BC Partners could support a new phase, but the league’s future depends on restructuring plans and commitments from players.

Rahm’s next destination remains uncertain. He previously declined an opportunity to return to the PGA Tour through a special reinstatement programme that allowed Brooks Koepka to rejoin the circuit. The PGA Tour has not confirmed whether Rahm could return under different conditions, leaving the DP World Tour as another possible route for his immediate future.

The separation agreement still requires approval from the judge overseeing LIV Golf’s bankruptcy proceedings, with a hearing scheduled for November 5. Once approved, it would formally release Rahm from his contractual obligations and allow him to pursue opportunities elsewhere in professional golf.
