Joe Root ‘Hacked Off’ After Brydon Carse Nightclub Incident

England captain Joe Root has expressed his frustration and disappointment after fast bowler Brydon Carse became involved in an incident outside a nightclub in Derby. Carse was filmed in handcuffs on Saturday night and was briefly arrested before being released without charge.

Carse was subsequently withdrawn from England’s squad for the second Test against Pakistan at Lord’s, which begins on Thursday. The England and Wales Cricket Board referred the matter to the Cricket Regulator, while Sonny Baker was brought into the squad as his replacement.

Although Carse was not on England duty when the incident occurred, having been released to play for Durham, he remains a centrally contracted England player. Root said he had spoken to Carse and described his team-mate as upset and apologetic over what happened.

Root also expressed concern that the latest controversy was distracting attention from England’s strong performance in the first Test against Pakistan. He said the issue was particularly frustrating because it followed a series of other off-field incidents involving England players.

The latest episode adds to growing scrutiny of England’s behaviour away from the cricket field. Recent incidents have involved Harry Brook, Ben Duckett, Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson, increasing pressure on the team to address its off-field culture.

The Cricket Regulator will now investigate the Derby incident before determining whether any further disciplinary action is warranted. Carse, meanwhile, will not be available for England while the investigation is ongoing.
