The win booked India’s place in Sunday’s final against South Africa, marking their third appearance in a one-day final though the team has never lifted the trophy.
For Rodrigues, the triumph was deeply personal. The 25-year-old, who was dropped from the 2022 World Cup squad and struggled for form earlier in this tournament, admitted she battled anxiety and emotional challenges throughout the competition.
The Mumbai-born batter, a devout Christian, said she was told only five minutes before the match that she would bat at number three, a late decision that turned into a masterstroke. Rodrigues called her innings “my best knock ever,” building a crucial 167-run partnership with captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who contributed 89. Despite the sweltering conditions, Rodrigues kept her composure, often pausing between deliveries to pray and refocus.
Rodrigues has been a steady performer since her debut in 2018, amassing over 1,700 ODI runs at an average above 35. Teammate Harmanpreet Kaur praised her maturity and determination.
Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar also hailed Rodrigues’s development, crediting her experience in overseas leagues for honing her game sense.
Meanwhile, Australia’s captain Alyssa Healy admitted her side “let ourselves down” after their first loss of the tournament but commended Rodrigues for her grit and composure.
With confidence and faith restored, Rodrigues now leads an inspired Indian team toward a historic final, just one win away from rewriting their cricketing story.
