Jeeno Thitikul Shares Lead with Angel Yin After Stunning 63 at LPGA Tour Championship

Posted : 24 November 2024

Thailand's Jeeno Thitikul shot a bogey-free nine-under-par 63 to tie for the lead with American Angel Yin at the LPGA Tour Championship on Saturday.

Thitikul's round, which included an eagle at the par-5 17th and a birdie at 18, brought her to a total of 15-under 201 after 54 holes at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Florida.

The 21-year-old Thai star attributed her strong performance to her caddie, whose birthday it was, and expressed hope for a big payout for him on the final day.

Chinese golfer Yin Ruoning, in third place with a score of 204, is three strokes behind the leaders, while England's Charley Hull and South Korea's An Na-rin are tied for fourth with 205. American Lucy Li and Russian Nataliya Guseva follow closely with 206.

The event, with a $4 million top prize, has brought together the top 60 players from the season's points chase, and Jeeno is aiming for her fourth career LPGA title. She reflected on the experience, emphasizing that it's all about learning and improvement, rather than life-or-death stakes.

Jeeno started her round with a birdie and followed with two more on the fifth and eighth holes. She continued her charge on the back nine with three consecutive birdies and then took a share of the lead with her eagle on 17. A final birdie on 18 sealed her spot at the top.

Jeeno explained that her approach to 17 was to hit the second shot onto the green, which gave her a chance for an easy birdie, and she was pleasantly surprised by the eagle. On 18, her focus shifted to securing a par, with no expectations of her final putt.
