Top-ranked Jeeno Thitikul of Thailand is aiming for her third victory of the season and the largest prize in women’s golf at this week’s LPGA Tour Championship. The $11 million season finale at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Florida, brings together the 60 best players, with a $4 million top prize at stake. The 22-year-old Thai star has been in exceptional form, securing six top-10 finishes in her last seven tournaments.
Jeeno has already claimed titles at the Mizuho Americas Open in May and last month’s LPGA Shanghai event. However, she has also finished as runner-up four times this season, including at the Evian Championship in France, where she narrowly missed her first major title. Reflecting on the season, she said, “It’s been an amazing ride, with ups and downs. I’ve had a lot of close calls, but each setback has been a learning experience and helped me grow.”
At the Tour Championship, where she has never finished outside the top 10, Jeeno is also competing for the season-long money title, the Vare Trophy for lowest scoring average, and the LPGA Player of the Year award. She remains focused on giving her best on the course, stating, “If a trophy belongs to someone else, it should go to the person who deserves it. I just aim to give 100 percent.”
Currently, world No. 4 Minjee Lee of Australia leads the season money list with $3.82 million, with Jeeno trailing by $244,058. Lee, who adopted a broomstick putter this year, captured her third major at the Women’s PGA Championship in June and has recorded eight top-10 finishes, including a shared third at Evian. Lee noted her approach to the season: “I didn’t have big expectations, just focused on my process, and it has paid off.”
Jeeno holds the lowest scoring average this season at 68.88 strokes, ahead of world No. 2 Nelly Korda of the United States on 69.58. Korda, who won seven titles in 2024, has one final chance to secure another victory. In the Player of the Year standings, Jeeno leads by 16 points over Japan’s Miyu Yamashita, who has already clinched Rookie of the Year honors. The top 10 players at the Tour Championship will earn points, with the winner receiving 30. Yamashita has the potential to become only the second golfer to win both Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year in the same season, following Nancy Lopez in 1978.
